My husband and I are going to host a mini Halloween party with our family in our flat this year. It’s nothing fancy, just 10 people hanging out together, eating dinner, playing games and dressing up for fun. But even though our Halloween party is small, I still want to make it special and memorable. And what’s Halloween without decorations, right?
I decided to add a balloon garland as part of our Halloween decoration. Balloon garlands are gorgeous and affordable. They bring festive addition to no matter what occasion you celebrate or theme you pick. And speaking about theme, I go with simple black and white for our Halloween theme this year.
Balloon garland may looks complex, but making it is surprisingly easy and fun. Once you know how to connect the balloons, you can customise it to however you want: short and simple, super long, colourful, or add anything really. But in this post, I am going to show you specifically how I make my Halloween balloon garland.
Materials:
- Balloons (I use 8 white balloons & 8 black balloons)
- Hand pump to inflate the balloons (or you can also inflate them by mouth)
- Black stretchable spider webs decoration
- Black craft string/twine
- Scissor
Instructions:
Inflate all the balloons in variety of size (make some balloons big, some medium-size, and some small), but don’t over-inflate them
On your black balloons, place stretchable spider webs all around. Hook it to the balloon hole and start spreading the webs. Don’t worry if you can’t spread it out evenly because the creepier, the better. You can also add mini spider decoration and stick it to the webs if you want.
Cut twine (about 10cm in length) and tie two balloons together (doesn’t matter what size or colour). Tie each balloon to each end of the twine.
Repeat until all the balloons are in pairs.
Cut a long twine (depending on how long you want your garland to be) and tie a knot around the centre of the first pair of balloons. Don’t forget to leave appropriate length on each end of the twine if you’re planning to hang your garland.
Grab another pair of balloons and make a loop with the twine around them, and then slide them down the line until they are close to the first pair of balloons.
Continue looping and sliding with the rest of the pairs.
Once you reach your last pair, tie a knot around it.
Adjust your balloons by rotating them around until you are happy with how it look.
And you’re done! Your Halloween balloon garland is ready to hang.
Because my balloon garland is short, small and light, I only use masking tape on each end of the twine to stick it to the wall and it works just fine for me. However, if your balloon garland is long and heavy, you will need a stronger hold. In that case, you can use adhesive utility hook. If you do so, consider to choose the one that can be removed easily once the party is over so you won’t end up damaging your wall.
