Happy Halloween everyone!
Today is the official Halloween day but I’m already done celebrating. As I mentioned in my previous DIY Halloween balloon garland post, my husband and I were hosting a mini home party in our flat with our little family last weekend. It was not a big, fancy party, really. It was more just like a bonding time between us family and everyone just happened to be unoccupied that weekend. And since the date fell on the last few days of October, we decided to turn our family gathering into a mini Halloween party.
And for that, I decorated my living room with some Halloween stuff to present the mood. I decided to go with black and white Halloween theme this year because I didn’t want to add anything too flashy into my apartment. I like to keep it simple, but also fun. Nothing too scary or sadistic since I’m really not a fan of blood splatter.
So let’s start with our front door.
We decorated our main door with white stretchable spider webs and mini spiders that I bought from Daiso. We use white Blu-tack to stick the webs onto the door.
Behind the main door, we hanged skeleton decoration and placed one of the eye holes to our peep hole. We bought this skeleton from Daiso and it is claimed to be glow in the dark, but unfortunately it won’t produce any glow no matter what. We tried sun-bathing it, put it under light for a lengthy period of time, but still nothing happened. It would’ve been cool if it can light up when the room is dark, though.
In our genkan a.k.a entryway, we put up creepy skull decoration with spider webs behind it. And yes, it’s another Daiso’s product. Most of the Halloween decorations that I bought are from Daiso. So yeah, it’s a budget-friendly decorations!
Underneath the “flying” skull, we proudly display Jack Skellington piñata alongside with silly creepy hands that my husband and I made a few weeks ago as our “just for fun” DIY project. We filled our piñata with candies and gave it to our nephew who won in our little competition during the party. Some other decorations such as the black pumpkin and toy mouse are from Daiso.
The Halloween decoration in the living room is quite minimal and plain (I admit!) but I think that’s a good start for the first year. I bought decorations that can be stored and reused as much as possible for years ahead so nothing goes waste.
On the cabinet behind my entryway, I hang this cute ghost that I bought from Daiso (again).
Finally decorations that aren’t entirely from Daiso (ha!). I bought the skull from a shop called Pan-In-The-Box in Clarke Quay. I bought some Halloween masks too there. They sell many cool party props and cosplay stuff too. I found the shop by accident when I was casually shopping in the mall. What a happy accident!
The spider and the flower pom pom are (again) from Daiso.
And of course we do not left our favourite plushies behind! Both of them are wearing stuff from Daiso.
We also cover our spotlights with green lantern paper so that at night, our living room will appear “greenish” and a little bit spooky. This was just an attempt to mildly scare the kids (the nephews and nieces) that came to our party.
To contribute more to the theme, I change the pillow covers on my sofa to black and white as well. And oh, a little update of our home: I just added a carpet to our living room lately!
Above the sofa, I also hang Halloween garland on the window of my study/office room.
And this is our Halloween photo backdrop. This is probably the messiest decoration among all, but I’m happy with it because we had so much fun decorating it.
Few days before the party, I baked and decorated Halloween sugar cookies to serve during the party.
I also made this hand ice to be served with red syrup for the drink.
If you’re wondering what we are doing at the party, here’s what: we started by having dinner, followed by playing some games while eating dessert. And that’s all. It’s just like any other family gathering, actually. And oh, we took some photos too. My husband prepared some creepy masks and props for our guests to wear, just for fun.
Although it was only 10 people in our Halloween party, we actually had fun. To be frank, it was my first time to ever have Halloween-related stuff going on on Halloween. I’ve never been to any Halloween party before, so I don’t really know what people are actually doing beside trick-or-treating for kids (I didn’t do that either when I was a kid) to celebrate Halloween.
