Happy New Year 2019!
I know it’s been a week since we entered 2019, but like the old saying goes, it’s better late than never. And as my first post of this year, I want to use the opportunity of the New Year to create resolutions for my home.
But before I begin, allow me to make up for my void. If you’ve been following me, whether in this blog or other social medias, you might noticed that I’ve been M.I.A. for the past few months! Even though previously I posted only once a month, but this time was the longest I’ve ever gone. The last blog post I posted in this blog was from Halloween last year and that means I missed the chance to share the joy of Christmas, which was my favourite holiday of the year.
Trust me, I didn’t intend to neglect this blog at all. In fact, I have bunch of plans and ideas that I wanted to share in this blog. Unfortunately, I’ve been overwhelmed with extra work in the past few months and it was so difficult to find the time just to sit down in one corner and write a blog post peacefully with all the holiday season coming together.
I feel bad for all of you who have messaged me or left comments on my social media that I haven’t had the chance to reply. I will eventually get back to everyone, so thank you so much for all your thoughtful support. I really appreciate it!
And finally, here I am today, ready to rock this blog all over again. This year, I made a resolution not only for myself, but also for my home. I want to get my home in the best shape it can be through a 12-months organisation program starting this month. The idea is to tackle one thing every month throughout the year.
So here are 12 things I’m gonna do to my home in 2019.
January: Get Rid of Broken Items
Since my home is still relatively new, the focus of my New Year’s resolution is to get my home organised. And what does broken junk do to an organised home? Nothing. That means in this month, I’m going to ditch all appliances, furnitures, and other trinkets that are damaged, spoiled, shattered, chipped, or just simply out of order.
February: Get Rid of Unused Items
Just like broken items, items that are no longer in use are contributing to more mess at home. This includes those old magazines, free gifts from shopping, or any products that I don’t use anymore. This year, I will find the time to finally dispose or donate those items.
March: Organise All Drawers
I have drawers in almost every room of my home, especially my home office. Drawers are great to keep all the mess out of sight, but this year, I’m going to give my drawers more purpose than just a holding site to random items. I’m going to make each drawer as a permanent home for group-like items with smart storage solutions inside.
April: Manage All Cords & Cables
Nothing irks me more than tangled cords and cables. Just looking at untidy cords behind electronic items annoys me so much. The worst part is I have cords everywhere in my house. From phone chargers, camera chargers, shaver charger, Clarisonic charger, electronic toothbrush charger, extensions, and so forth. This month, I’m going to tackle this problem once and for all.
May: Organise Wardrobe
Every time I slide open my wardrobe door, I always thought of two things: “I have nothing to wear” and “I don’t have enough space”. They are ridiculous thoughts that are against each other which funny enough, happens to most people. This year, I’m going to deeply declutter my wardrobe by clearing out stuff I don’t wear anymore and reorganise everything in a more efficient way.
June: Inspect Everything
June is the best time to look for any damage in my home because it will mark one year after I move. This month, I will closely inspect my walls, doors, windows, ceilings, and floors and to immediately fix any damage I find to prevent it from getting worse.
July: Replace Old and Dirty Items
This month is my birthday month and I think it will be a good month to shop for something new! I will use this month to replace any old and dirty items with something fresh and clean.
August: Organise Kitchen
I always wanted a kitchen with awesome storage solutions here and there. This month, I will organise each corner of my kitchen including kitchen cabinets and refrigerator. I’m going to make these Pinterest kitchen organisation ideas a reality.
September: Organise Pantry
My pantry a.k.a. household shelter is one place in the house that has a lot of stuff. Here is where I keep my cooking supplies from canned food, spices, to seasonal cooking utensils, mixer, air fryer, etc. This month, I’m going to fully organise this area and give proper labels to each storage.
October: Reorganise Important Documents
It’s time to reorganise those important documents. This month, I will not only sort all of my and my husband documents but also give them a proper system in such an easy-to-find way.
November: Organise Photos and Albums
It’s one month before the holiday hype and it will be a perfect time to organise those printed photos and albums from this year or beyond.
December: Decorate and Have Fun
December is the best time to sit back and relax and reflect on what I’ve accomplished this year. I’m going to use this opportunity to decorate my home with holiday theme and have more fun with family and friends.
This whole resolutions thing might sounds funny, knowing that it’s almost the second week of January which for most people, it’s the time when resolutions starting to falter. But I believe it’s never too late to start something good. Do you make any resolution this year?
