Revamping Entryway Tile Grout

This week I did a little makeover to my entryway floor. I revamped the tile grout because it started to look dull.

So this was how the floor looked like before the upgrade. In a glance, it seemed fine but if you look closely, you would noticed the grout is dirty and uneven. It was the original tile grout from the HDB since we moved in.

Before I began the makeover, I deep mopped this small area to make sure they are super clean and dust-free. I had to build a mini fortress using random items around the house to block Momo from entering the entryway because it would need a few hours for the filler to be completely dry.

I started by sticking masking tape around the grout. I use the product called Tile Reform. I bought it online from Qoo10 but I also saw them in general home improvement store in markets. According to the product description, you can apply the tile filler agent directly to the grout because it has nozzle but I find it easier to use masking tape like this. It helped making sure the line is straight and even.

I use my finger to spread the filler and wipe my finger after every spread with wet wipes so I have a clean finger to work with every time. If you do it like this, the filler will be smooth but make sure to protect your finger with glove to avoid unnecessary cleaning or skin problems. The filler will be touch-dry in about 30 minutes. If you have a scrapper, you can use it too instead of using finger like me. I prefer to use my finger because I can be more precise and control the smoothness of the surface better.

Make sure to remove the masking tape carefully and do it before they are completely dry. It’s important to remove the masking tape before the filler is dry to prevent it from cracking so please keep that in mind if you work on a large floor area.

The last step is to allow 2-3 days drying time without any contact with water. Please mop the floor throughly one more time before letting your pets or kids roaming around the floor just to make sure you don’t leave any toxic residue. And that’s it!
