This is a super simple, inexpensive DIY raised dog bowl stand idea that you can build in less than 5 minutes.
I have been feeding Momo with elevated dog bowl stand that I build myself since after he had his neuter surgery. It helps put less strain on Momo’s neck, making him eating and drinking more comfortably. It was a little over a year ago and I keep using it until today because I realised he eats better when I put the bowl on the stand.
Elevated dog bowl stand is also good if your dog likes to nudge their bowl around or making a mess when eating or drinking.
However, the price of a good elevated dog bowl stand is not cheap and frankly speaking, not all dogs are gonna appreciate it. Since I was not certain if Momo will like using a raised bowl stand or not, I decided to do a little hack, building it myself and save some bucks.
I use $2 stackable shelf and put a layer of vinyl mat on top of it to catch spills. Vinyl mat is waterproof and easy to clean. It also helps in keeping the bowl from moving around because of the rubbery material.
Initially, I got both of the items (the stackable shelf and vinyl mat) from Daiso but recently I change the vinyl mat into something more durable and made of a better quality.
The best thing is that you can always change the vinyl mat when it gets old and customise it according to your liking because there are just so many designs and colours of vinyl mat you can choose out there. The new vinyl mat that I use was actually a dining place mat. I trimmed the sides so it fits the stackable shelf perfectly.
Look at how cute the pattern is!
I like how lightweight yet sturdy it is. Both of the materials are also easy to keep clean.
Stackable shelf also comes in few different sizes so you can choose the one suitable for your dog’s size. To determine the correct height, take note that when eating, your dog should be able to eat comfortably without lowering the neck nor stretching upwards.
Do you think your dog will like to eat from the raised dog bowl stand? Since it is such an easy and inexpensive idea, why not you give it a try to find out. Who knows, your dog may thank you for that. If your dog doesn’t like it, you can always use the stackable shelf for another purpose. No biggie.
