DIY Origami Advent Calendar Christmas Tree

To celebrate this year’s holiday season, I decided to start a new family tradition with advent calendar. I think it is such a cute and fun way to track the days until Christmas with my little one. Instead of buying ready-to-use advent calendar, I wanted to get a little crafty by making a super simple DIY origami advent calendar using materials that I already have at home.

This DIY advent calendar is really easy to make and you can also customise the size to fit your stuffings. It doubles as wall decoration too and you basically only need paper and string to make it. You can use origami paper or wrapping paper with cute design of your choice or even reusing old newspaper or any extra paper that you already have at home.

DIY Advent Calendar Christmas Tree

Make your own advent calendar so you’ll have the flexibility of choosing the stuffings yourself and get creative in the process.

Tools & Materials

  • Paper
  • String or twine
  • Glittery or shiny paper (for the star)
  • Clear tape
  • Scissors
  • Hole puncher

Directions

Cut the paper to fit your stuffing. Feel free to eyeball this step, you don’t really need to measure it, just make sure the paper is large enough to cover the stuffing front and back, and has some space on top and bottom.

Fold the paper horizontally and tape the seam with clear tape.

Fold the bottom part twice with the seam in the middle.

Secure the folded part with clear tape.

Add the stuffing of your choice. Fun ideas for stuffings: small toys, stickers, mini stationeries, sweets and candies.

Close the opening by folding the top part twice perpendicularly to the closed edge so the end result looks like a pyramid. Secure it with clear tape.

Punch a hole on one corner with a hold puncher.

Attach a string or twine and tie it into a small hook.

Make 24 of these with the same steps. Arrange the pyramids in a Christmas tree shape.

Thread a string or twine through each hook of the pyramids in each row. Make a loop on both ends of each twine so it can be hanged to the wall by using tape or adhesive hooks if your stuffings are heavy.

Write date from 1-24 on the pyramids.

Cut the glittery or shiny paper into a star shape as the tree topper. I use white tack to stick the star safely onto the wall.

Attached everything onto the wall and you’re done. You can also decorate the little pyramids with ribbons or stickers to make it more festive.

Happy holidays ♡
