How to build vertical wall storage with wire nets and tension rods

Every bit of space matters! This easy and low-cost DIY solution is a practical way to add storage to a small home while making use of unused vertical space. No drilling, bolts, or sticky adhesive required.
This simple storage solution is great if small items often end up on your counter. Hanging them up helps keep things clear, and cleaning becomes easier since everything is visible and off the surface.
Materials & tools
- Wire nets
- 2 tension rods / extendable poles
- Cable ties / zip ties
- Scissors or nail clipper
- Hooks and baskets compatible with your wire nets
Wire nets and tension rods come in different sizes and lengths, so feel free to choose the ones that best fit your space and needs.
Everything I used here is from Daiso, but similar items can also be found in other home and hardware stores.
Instructions

Step 1: Secure two tension rods in the space between the surface and the bottom of your cabinet.

Step 2: Attach the wire nets to the rods using zip ties. I’m using two wire nets here, but one is enough if it suits your space.
Step 3: Trim off the excess zip ties neatly with a scissor or nail clipper.

Step 4: Add hooks or baskets to the wire net to organise your items. Done!
This setup is perfect for above the stove or around the kitchen to keep condiments or utensils within easy reach while cooking.

It also works well above the kitchen sink for organising dishwashing tools like gloves, sponges, brushes, and dishwashing liquid.
You can also reposition or expand it anytime as your storage needs change. Since it doesn’t use anything adhesive, you won’t have to worry about sticky residue.

This vertical wall organiser is super slim and doesn’t take up any counter space, making it ideal for small kitchens. It makes use of unused vertical areas, so your surfaces stay clear and clutter-free.
NOTE! To ensure safety, please do not place fragile or heavy items on it. Use it only for lightweight items to prevent the setup from shifting or falling.
Simple tools, big possibilities
Simple tools like wire nets and tension rods are really useful for small homes as they can be adapted to many different spaces. Just like in this DIY I’ve just shown you, a small adjustment is all it takes to turn unused corners or vertical gaps into functional storage without much effort.
