I love finding ways to repurpose simple items instead of buying more storage products. With clear file folders, you’ll be surprised at how versatile they are for solving everyday organising problems.
3 easy & smart file folder organisation hacks
These file folder organisation hacks are budget-friendly, practical, and actually get the job done. Here are three easy ideas you can try!
1. Make a holder for garbage bags newspaper sheets

Turn a file folder into a simple dispenser for storing garbage bags.
Start by cutting a curved opening in the centre of one of the closed horizontal sides. Make it large enough to pull the bags out easily, but not so large that everything falls out.

Trim the file folder so it isn’t much bigger than the contents, then tape the open side shut to keep everything secure. Leave the top part open for inserting contents.

Punch two holes at the top so you can hang it wherever you need it. Or simply use a magnetic clip if you have.
This works especially well for folded garbage bags because you can pull them out one at a time with one hand.
To stop the bags from shifting inside, you can insert a piece of cardboard between them. This helps keep them neatly folded when pulled out.
Bonus idea: Store newspaper sheets

I also use this hack to store cutout pieces of old newspaper or magazine paper. Simply cut the paper into small sheets and keep them inside the dispenser.
They’re handy for picking up things you’d rather not touch directly, such as hair in the drain cover, or for wrapping used sanitary products before disposal.
I keep mine hanging behind my bathroom cabinet, and it comes in handy for small clean-up job.
2. Keep bin liners neat and in place

If seeing bin liners hanging over the sides of your rubbish bin bothers you, this simple hack can help. It makes the bin look much neater.

Cut the file folder to match the height of your bin and cut the sealed portion. Place it inside the bin and shape it to fit the interior. Tape the ends together and trim away any remaining bits.

Once fitted, place the bin liner between the folder and the bin. The folder acts as a liner holder, helping the bag stay in place without excess plastic hanging outside.
3. Create a magnetic whiteboard or display holder

A clear file folder can also become a simple magnetic whiteboard or display holder.
Simply attach adhesive magnetic strips to the back, or secure magnets with tape. Then slide a sheet of paper inside and place it on any magnetic surface.
If you want to use it on a non-magnetic surface, simply attach it to any wall with tape and use two magnets on each side of the file so you can open and close it.
You can write on it with a whiteboard marker and wipe it clean when you’re done. It’s useful for shopping lists, reminders, meal plans, or quick notes.

You can also use it as a simple changeable frame to display children’s artwork, family photos, receipts, or other papers you need to access from time to time.
The best organising solutions are often the simplest
I’ve always believed that most organising problems can be solved easily without anything fancy if we just try to think outside the box. These file folder hacks are a great example of how simple items can be surprisingly flexible in use.
